About Franklin Telephone Company, Inc.

Franklin Telephone Company was founded in 1959 for the purpose of operating the telephone systems in and around parts of 19 counties in Mississippi. The Company continues to be privately owned and operated by native Mississippians as has been the case for over 48 years.

Franklin Telephone Company prides itself on keeping up with the latest technology to provide our customers with the best quality service available. Franklin Telephone provides services over approximately 550 miles of fiber optic cable within its ten exchange areas. Franklin was the first telephone company in Mississippi to have an exchange (Artesia-Crawford) with all buried plant, and the first independent in Mississippi to interconnect with BellSouth using fiber optic facilities. In 2004, Franklin Telephone Company began replacing all legacy switch equipment with softswitch technology. Franklin was the first independent telephone company in Mississippi to convert all central office switches to digital, and the first independent in Mississippi to ticket and rate their own toll. This practice also allows us to offer new, technological services to rural areas of Mississippi that might otherwise not be served. These services include innovative digital services to the home or business including voice, data, high-speed Internet, and digital cable!

Franklin has installed emergency generating equipment at all central office locations in order to assure continued service until electric service is restored. The majority of Franklin Telephone's cables to the subscriber locations have been placed underground to reduce the threat of loss of service during ice and wind storms.

Commercial offices are located in Meadville/Bude and New Augusta. Customer service representatives are present at those locations to assist the subscribers with service changes as well as trouble reporting. Construction and maintenance crews are based in all locations for prompt service response to reported trouble and service requests.

Franklin Telephone Company, Inc. also offers qualified customers Lifeline and Link-Up services as part of the federal Universal Service Fund program instituted by the Federal Communications Commission and overseen by the Universal Service Administrative Company.
